Imagine this. Your wife plans a vacation alone. She suggests you go to jail while she is
gone! This is what most boarding kennels represent to your dog.
-
I have tried to turn this experience into a spa for your dog.
It is given a kennel house that is cool in the summer and heated in the winter with an ample outdoor run that
has partial cover from bad weather and sun. There are two meals a day, 1/3
in the morning with a supplement and 2/3 in the evening after the afternoon
run. There are 2 individualized exercise periods per day with the dog run
within his tolerance physically.
-
Within 24 hours of arriving the dog is
tabled and gone over for parasites, lumps and bumps, skin, ear or mouth
problems. He is groomed (custom cuts excluded) as appropriate or needed
including sanding nails and scaling tartar off teeth within limits not
requiring anesthesia or sedation. Since the dog is handled twice a day,
behavior problems are noted and addressed. Diet is that required by the
dog, not more. He will be exposed to other sociable dogs and expected to
behave accordingly. Once the dog is accustomed to the routine after 3 or 4
days, it becomes part of the gang and begins to really enjoy its time away
from home. Return visitors fit right back in. This costs a bit more than
some boarding kennels, but dogs think it is worth it.
Full immunization is required including Bordatella (kennel cough).
Do not bring actively sick dogs. Drop-offs and pick-ups are scheduled and during
daylight hours. Veterinarian names and numbers are required.
Bring them at drop-off time. Consent is obtained to seek veterinarian consultation in your
absence if necessary. It makes sense, right?
Boarders are required to be over 30 lbs and under 30 inches. If you want
your dog to come home a healthy, calmer guy, Britt Haven is right for your dog.
