Britt Haven is a 10.5 acre enclave on the Ramapo River in Mahwah , NJ , owned and operated by Dr. Emile (Doc) Berlet.  It is dedicated to the improvement of the already excellent Brittany dog.  Some of you may not be familiar with this breed, so let me take a few minutes to tell you a bit about it.

The Brittany is a compact dog, whose body length and height at the shoulder should measure about the same   The American standard is 17.5 -20.5 inches at the shoulder.  Mine are above 19 inches and weigh between 35-40 pounds.  They are very athletic and intelligent, making them good dogs for obedience and agility training, as well as hunting.  As hunters they range and point game extremely well.  They are excellent retrievers, even in water, under moderate conditions.  They are renowned for their thoroughness and appropriate range for the on foot hunter.  If you would like to review the AKC Breed Standard, click HERE

Ch Britt Haven’s Everything’s Jake

I have selected dogs from outstanding breeders in the country and my own line for my breed stock.  My objective, as a breeder, is a leggy dog near the top of the standard with smoother hair, more white than orange for greater visibility in the field, calm, intelligent disposition.  Show ring conformation and field champion competence complete this objective.  Puppies should be healthy, immunized, and well started with socialization with dogs and people. 

These dogs are lively, active, but not high strung.  They require a lot of exercise in the open and off lead.  They require a sizable yard with preferably an electronic fence.  They are soft, stubborn, highly intelligent dogs that require a lot of  training to avoid boredom, and that training is seldom within the novice’s capability.  With these requirements met, they are excellent with children if previously socialized with them, and with other dogs.  In the home they are a relaxed and wonderful companion, quite alert and comic, sweet and gentle.  Their relatively short, single coat drip-dries and requires minimal maintenance.
